Awards Given for Hospitality and Tourism Students

Eight hospitality and tourism management students at the University of South Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ received scholarships and recognition during the recent Hospitality and Tourism Reception hosted by the Country Club of Mobile.
Area hospitality and tourism leaders joined students and University officials for the event, which also honored a business partner of the program.
The University’s hospitality and tourism management degree program, which just began last fall, now has 100 majors as well as a summer leadership program, FLIGHT, that connects students with a Gulf Shores hotel and resort for on-the-job learning.
Recognized for receiving Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Tourism Industry Scholarships from the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Travel Council were Kayleigh Coleman, senior, $1,500; Carissa Barrios, sophomore, $1,500; and Cassidy Fuller, sophomore, $1,000.
Senior Anna Childree was honored with the Jim and Liz Connors Hospitality Management Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to a junior or senior majoring in hospitality and tourism management. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 grade-point average.
Four students received Spectrum Resorts Scholarships of $500, which provide financial assistance to hospitality and tourism management students with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to student participants in the FLIGHT program. Recipients were: Carissa Barrios, sophomore; Antony Nguyen, sophomore; Janie Arnold, senior; and Whitney Williams, senior.
The department of hospitality and tourism management named David Clark, general manager of the Beach Club, Spectrum Resorts, as its Industry Partner of the Year. Clark worked with Green to develop FLIGHT.
