Mark 9:47-48 (KJV)

47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

What is Hell?

The Christian theology describes Hell as the place or state in which by God’s definitive judgment, unrepentant sinners and atheists pass in the general judgment immediately after death. (en.wikipedia.org)

They also described it as a distant land of no return, a house of dust where the dead dwell without distinction of rank or merit, and a sealed fortress, typically of seven gates, barred against invasion or escape. (www.britannica.com)

Also, the Bible describes hell as an outer darkness where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 25:30)

The Bible warns that there will be great pain, great hardship to the soul that dies without God.

Introduction

Hell is a place of total, conscious, eternal separation from the blessings of God. In that if a person rejects God all throughout life, never submitting to him in repentance, then the person qualifies to spend eternity in HELL.

We will be discussing how the Bible describes Life, after Death, a Description of Hell and a Conclusion.

Anchor Scriptures

Romans 3:23; John 3:16-17; John 20:31; Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-3; John 1:14; Hebrews 9:27; Luke 16:19-31;Job 10:21-22;Job 17:13; Job 15:23; Nahum 1:8; Matthew 8:12; Matthew 22:13; Matthew 25:30; Jude 1:13; Revelation 16:10; Matthew 8:12; Matthew 13:41-43; Matthew 13:50; Matthew 22:13; Matthew 24:51; Matthew 25:30; Luke 13:28; Isaiah 66:24.

How Does The Bible Describe Life?

The period between Birth and Death is called LIFE!

The Bible describes life as a Vapour – James 4:14; a Shadow -1Chron 29:15; a Wind- Job 7:7; a Shadow that passeth away – Psalm 144:4; as Grass -1 Peter 1:24; as water spilled on the ground-2 Samuel 14:14; a Smoke-Psalm 102:3; a few days- Job 14:1; Vain- Psalm 89:47; Strangers and Sojourners- 1 Chronicles 29:15; the Days of the Hireling- Job7:1;as a Tale that is told-Psalm 90:9 etc.

None of us had any control over our coming to this world nor our exit.

From the scriptures above we can safely say that LIFE is so temporal and does not last as long as eternity. The bible records in (Ecc3:2) that there is a time to be born and a time to die.

Since the time we spend in life is so short and no one knows how he/she will end his life, it is in our best interest to use this life we have to prepare for eternity so we are not caught unawares.

While it is good to have plans and tall dreams in life, we must realize that as soon as we are born we draw nearer to our graves, our days on earth are getting shorter and shorter with each passing second. We have just one chance to give this short life we have to God, so that whatever time we die unexpectedly or not we can make Heaven.

It is the greatest tragedy to die without Christ.

After Death

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27). We can see from this scripture that the Bible does not indicate further opportunities to receive salvation after a person dies.

The wicked are raised to life in a separate resurrection—the resurrection of condemnation. Jesus said, “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation” (John 5:28-29).

Anyone whose name is not found written in the book of life will be thrown into the Lake of Fire. (Revelation 20:15)

hell fireA Description of Hell

1. Hell is worse than any picture any one can paint of it.

2. Hell is available but you do not have to go there. God prepared it for the devil and his angels (Mathew 25:41b), it is worth cutting off your hands and legs than going into Hell.

3. The scariest thing about hell is its duration, it is FOREVER, the worst thing is going and taking someone along by introducing them to vices, in some cases the sinner may have repented but the person that was led to sin goes to hell.

4. Hell is one place where experience is not the best teacher.

5. Hell is one way in and no way out, but for the believer earth is the only hell they will ever know.

6. Hell is immediate upon death for a sinner.

7. Hell is literal in its existence, fire, weeping and gnashing of teeth.

8. Hell is a place of no hope, a place of intense, unquenchable fire, intolerable fear, eternal association with Satan, eternal separation with loved ones, unspeakable sorrow, unsatisfied craving for satisfaction e.g. no water, light, and food and basic amenities for a good life.

9. Hell was not part of the original plan of God.

10. Hell as a destination is by choice, it is voluntary.

10. Hell is a place devoid of mercy, comfort, undiluted divine wrath, a place of eternal damnation.

11. Hell occupiers are bound in chains.

12. Hell is a place of anger, deep hatred, bitterness, wickedness, it is completely avoidable, and companions or occupants of hell will be the vilest of creature.

13. Hell is not a story made up to scare you, it is real, no laughter, no love, no life, most of the people in hell did not expect to go there.

14. The secret part of hell is that it is gradual, remember those little sins that becomes besetting, the little foxes that spoil the vine.

15. Hell as a destination when you die is determined by how you lived your life on earth.

16. Hell enlarges itself, it is enough to accomodate all sinners and all that desire it. (Isaiah 5:14)

17. Hell habours those who don’t believe in God, those who will not obey God, those who obey and fell away, all sinners are on their way to hell.

18. Hell is even worse for a believer that backslides, just imagine a believer that has fought the kingdom of darkness and at last goes to hell, imagine meeting all the demons he fought with and defeated, it is better imagined.

We must avoid hell as an eternal destination at all cost, the greatest gain is Heaven the greatest loss is your Soul, one of d greatest pain of hell is ability to remember all the sermons preached, all the evil you have done.

May the good Lord help us all to finish Strong and make Heaven at Last in Jesus name.

Biblical Description of Hell

1. Hell is described as a Blackness of darkness Jude1:13, it is also referred to as exterior or outer darkness see (Matthew 8:12; 22:13; 25:30).

2. Hell is described as where there will be Wailing and Gnashing of teeth (Mathew 8:12; Mathew 13:42; Mathew 22:13) which means that there will be intense misery, grief, pain, weeping, gloom, sorrow etc. in Hellfire.

3. Hell is also described in the Bible as a place where worms do not die, the fire that burns and cannot be quenched see (Isaiah 66:24b and Mark 9:48).

4. Hell is a place where it’s inhabitants are eternally separated from God, they can never enjoy God’s glorious presence, the Blood of Jesus stops working, prayers cannot be answered, the Bible study will be of no use, God cannot fight for you and more so there is no chance for repentance. (2 Thessalonians 1:9; Mathew 25:41; Mathew 25:46).

5. Hell is for eternity, remember worms do not die, there will be no death, there will be serious thirst, wailing, gnashing of teeth, and everyone in hell is eternally damned!

Sin is a destroyer, its more terrible than we think, we must have heaven in focus every day, always repent and forsake our sins, we must be intentional about making heaven, we must seek the help of the Holy Spirit to help us subdue the flesh, we must feed our spirit man by reading the Bible and being a friend of God, we must chase spiritual wealth which is eternal than the physical wealth that is so temporal.

Conclusion

Hell is a place reserved for Satan and his angels, not originally intended for God’s beloved creation (Matthew 25:41). The Lord does not want anyone to perish in this final judgment but wants everyone to repent and forsake their sins.

The kingdom of God is nearer than we think, please spend time to study Mark13.

We must strive to feed our spirit man instead of feeding the flesh, Flesh is pure dust that has no eternal value, can’t you see the devil has deceived us for a long time, making us focus on material things, most people are into rituals and all sorts of wickedness just to adorn this flesh which is dust and profiteth nothing according to (John 6:63), do you think for a second that all your material wealth ends in this world, even your body which is a carcass/pure dust doesn’t leave the earth only our spirits goes back to God who gave it in the first place. (Ecclesiastes 12:7), no wonder the Bible posed that famous question “what shall it profit a man/woman to gain the whole world and loose his/her soul.” (Mark 8:36)

We need to be intentional about making Heaven. If you are a Believer reading this, kindly ensure you engage in active evangelism and seek to depopulate hell, you can start from your immediate family, inner circles, through your social media platforms etc. as the Lord gives you grace, remember the devil is also engaging in active evangelism especially through the Media. We will continuously seek the help of the Holy Spirit to give us the grace to live above sin. We must daily evaluate and re-evaluate our lives. We must have a one to one relationship with God, you do not need to go through any person(s), spiritual authorities or medium to reach God. Be a friend of God, he is as close to us as we want to be close to him, draw near to God and he will draw nigh to you (James 4:8), Be a Bible addict, We must also pray to God daily to take out anything that will cause us to go to hell and for our names to be written in the Book of Life. We have a chance to make that decision NOW, tomorrow may be too LATE.
